All parents want their children to model good character. And the best way to do that is to encourage children to want to be just like our ultimate role model―Jesus!
Just Like Jesus Bible Storybook is a collection of stories that will inspire kids to take on the character of Jesus. Each story highlights a lesson that Jesus taught―lessons like giving thanks, treating everyone equally, sharing with others, being patient, being generous, and more. Each lesson features a “Jesus in the Bible” story that shows Jesus’ character and how He acted in particular situations. Flip the page, and children will find a section called “Jesus in Me” that will inspire them to model Jesus’s behavior, conform to His character, and want to be just like Him! Each lesson ends with a short prayer through which children can ask God to help them develop the character of Jesus.
“Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:6
I want to be Just Like Jesus is listed as a Bible Storybook but I think it’s best described as a preschooler’s devotional. I was very impressed with the focus Mr. Elkins kept throughout the entire book while also keeping it simple enough for the youngest minds.
Just Like Jesus is a character study on Jesus that helps young children understand who our role model is and how best to imitate Him. This book covers 40 characteristics. Here’s a sample: Jesus was Thankful, Jesus was Responsible, Jesus was Selfless, Jesus was Kind, and Jesus was Spirit-filled.
Each characteristic starts out with scripture and then moves into an overview of how we saw that characteristic in Jesus. It follows up with a short paragraph on what it would look like if we acted like Jesus did and then it closes with a simple prayer.
The colorful illustrations are adorable and were an immediate hit with my four-year-old. Just Like Jesus seems to be intended for the birth through preschool age, but I think young readers would enjoy this one too. It’s very beautifully done and would make a wonderful gift.
