Reading Goals for 2016

74A new year means a new reading list!! So let’s talk reading goals, shall we?

Do you track your reading? If so, how? Are you a member of Goodreads, or do you use a journal, notebook or computer file?

As for myself, I keep up with the bulk of my reading on Goodreads, but I also keep a Reading Log on my computer that helps me sort through the various challenges that I’m working on.

And speaking on challenges, do you enjoy adding a little fun to your reading experience by participating in reading challenges? There are as many ways to participate as there are books to read. I have some personal challenges but my favorites come from one of my Goodreads groups.

This year, I’m hoping to put some sort of dent into my To Be Read pile, specifically the books I currently own on my kindle or bookshelf. I know I won’t come close to scraping bottom, but in an effort to make my mark this year, I’ve decided to challenge myself not to simply read ANY author but off of a preselected list of authors. I have two such lists. One is called the Must Read Author List and I’m challenging myself to read two books from some new favorite authors that I had found in 2015. Along with this list is a list of authors that everyone keeps talking about but I haven’t tried yet. I’m challenging myself to read at least one book from each of these. ย Wanna see my lists? Maybe you can even recommend a title if you find one of your favorite authors on there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Must Read Authors:
Melissa Tagg
Susan May Warren
Elizabeth Camden
Jody Hedlund
Laura Frantz
Siri Mitchell
Roseanna White

New Author List:
Sarah Ladd
Kristy Cambron
Becky Wade
Cara Putman
Carrie Daws
Joanie Bruce
Michael Phillips
Ann Tanlock

I’ve also challenged myself to read:

3 Classics
5 Civil War Journals
3 Rereads
10 Books from my personal collection
10 Novellas
Finish all 4 open series
Complete a 12 book challenge on Goodreads

There’s a lot here to work with and I’m looking forward to it. You can keep up with what I’m currently reading on Goodreads.

Now it’s your turn. Do you have any authors you’re hoping to try out this year? Are you planning to pick up any classics or non-fiction reading? Do you have any series you’d like to finish this year? Any fun challenges you want to share?

    1. I read Letters From the Enemy early last year and it remained one of my favorites for the year.
I think we both picked up one of her freebies a few months ago, maybe we’ll both give it a try together.

  1. Great list! I see 4 authors that I have really enjoyed…
–Melissa Tagg: All of her books are great so I’d have to recommend all of them! ๐Ÿ˜€
–Susan May Warren: My favorites of hers are probably the “Heirs of Anton” series that she wrote with Susan K. Downs. But I also really enjoyed her “Team Hope” series.
–Elizabeth Camden: “With Every Breath” is one of my favorites by this author… I really liked “The Lady of Bolton Hill” & “Against the Tide” as well.
–Roseanna White: “The Culper Ring” series!! ๐Ÿ™‚

And my lists are waaay too many and too long to even try to share here. haha! Though I will share the authors that I’m definitely looking forward to re-visiting: Candace Calvert, Colleen Coble, Dawn Crandall, Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon, Denise Hunter, Julie Klassen, Tracie Peterson, Dani Pettrey, Sarah Sundin, Melissa Tagg, Jen Turano, Roseanna M. White, & Karen Witemeyer. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks for responding!!
The Lady of Bolton Hill and Culper Ring are on my list for the year!!
I just finished Klassen’s latest book and it’s a must read if you haven’t read it yet. I’m hoping to get a hold of some more Karen Witemeyer too.
It sounds like we have a lot of authors in common. Are you on Goodreads?

      1. You mean “The Painter’s Daughter”? I’m just over half-way through that one right now and really enjoying it. And I’ve read all of Karen’s books so far and have yet to be disappointed so I definitely recommend her’s. ๐Ÿ™‚
Yes, I am. In fact, I just sent you a friend request about 5 minutes ago. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      2. Oh, great! I’ll look for it!

Yes, The Painter’s Daughter. I read it earlier this month and LOVED it.

I’m working on one of Karen’s series this year. I read Short Straw Bride last year and loved it, but it’s time to finish that series…eventually, anyways. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I did a Goodreads challenge last year, but haven’t had time to figure out how I did. ๐Ÿ™‚ You have some wonderful authors on your list! I’m like you and would love to get to some of the great ones on my Kindle. I’d like to read something by Roseanna White and would love to get The Painter’s Daughter. So many good books, so little time!

  3. I have so many book great books that I won’t even make a dent in either. But last year I read your books which were great and plan on reading the 3rd one when you are finished. I also read Sydney Betts 2 books which I dearly loved! I plan on trying to read more for sure this year. I love Michael Phillips books so I don’t think you will be disappointed when you read his. He is a favorite of mine as is Beverly Lewis, Laura Frantz, Tamera Alexander, Traci Peterson, Jane Kirkpatrick, Francine Rivers & many more.
