My Recommendations

Christian Fiction Featuring the Great Chicago Fire

In honor of the upcoming anniversary, I thought I’d share a few CF novels featuring the Great Chicago Fire, which happened from Oct 8-10 1871.

All links lead you to Goodreads.

Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden

This was probably my first introduction to the Chicago Fire. It’s a sweet romance that is directly centered around the fire. You’ll learn a great deal about life during the fire as well as rebuilding efforts afterward.

The Uncertainty of Fire by Stephanie Daniels

Here’s another amazing romance, only with two great guys instead of one! I mean, a girl only needs one, but Whimsy has options. 😉 As for the fire, the story picks up just hours before they realize there’s a problem and continues after the fire and not only showcases the true-to-life devastation, but also shows other difficulties of the era.

Until the Light Breaks Through by Heather Wood

I haven’t read this one yet, but it came recommended by a friend. I was told that it was a highly redemptive story. It is the 3rd book of a series.

Veiled in Smoke by Jocelyn Green

This one has been on my TBR list since before it was released. Now that the whole series is available, I need to bump this one up on my list.

Have you read any of these yet?
If you know of any other Christian Fiction novels featuring the Great Fire, please share the title with me!

  1. I haven’t read them, but Out of the Ashes by Sandi Rog and Secrets of the Heart by Al & Joanna Lacy are both about the Chicago Fire. I also really like I Survived the Great Chicago Fire 1871 by Lauren Tarshis; it’s not Christian but it’s a middle grade novel so it’s clean.
